Programs That Strengthen People and Communities

New Hope Alive, Inc. provides integrated programs and services designed to help individuals and families achieve greater health, stability, opportunity, and resilience. Through direct services, community-based initiatives, and strategic partnerships, we connect people with practical resources and pathways toward stronger futures.

Community Health & Wellness

New Hope Alive, Inc. connects individuals and families with health education, preventive resources, health screenings, healthcare navigation, and behavioral health and substance-use resources. Through community outreach and strategic healthcare partnerships, we help residents access trusted services that promote healthier lives and stronger communities.

Benefits Navigation & Enrollment Assistance

New Hope Alive, Inc. helps individuals and families understand, access, and navigate essential public benefits and supportive resources. Our team provides screening, application assistance, referrals, and navigation for programs including SNAP, Medicaid, Fair Fares NYC, Cash Assistance, HEAP, and other available benefits. We work with residents to reduce barriers, strengthen household stability, and connect them with the resources for which they may be eligible.

A Legacy of Meeting People Where They Are

Long before New Hope Alive, Inc. was formally established, its leadership was engaged in hands-on service to vulnerable communities. This outreach with individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness reflects the years of service, compassion, and practical community engagement that continue to shape NHA's work today.

Housing Stability Services

New Hope Alive, Inc. helps individuals and families navigate housing instability and connect with resources that support greater stability. Our work includes housing resource navigation, eviction-prevention and rental-assistance referrals, supportive-housing and homelessness-prevention resources, as well as community-based outreach to people experiencing homelessness. Building on years of leadership experience in direct community service, we meet people where they are, help identify appropriate options, and connect residents with trusted community and government resources.

Youth Development & Education

New Hope Alive, Inc. supports children, youth, adults, and families through educational and enrichment opportunities that promote learning, personal growth, leadership, and long-term success. Our programs include afterschool and youth development, academic support and mentoring, social-emotional development, leadership and life-skills development, digital literacy and career exploration, workshops for older youth, and adult and family learning opportunities, including English-language and literacy support. NHA is also advancing its DYCD COMPASS Middle School Program, providing structured afterschool programming designed to strengthen academic achievement, creativity, wellness, positive relationships, and youth leadership.

Through school and community partnerships, we create supportive pathways that help learners of different ages build skills, confidence, opportunity, and stronger futures.

Workforce Development & Economic Opportunity

New Hope Alive, Inc. helps individuals build the skills, confidence, and connections needed to pursue employment, career advancement, and greater economic stability. Our workforce development services include job-readiness and career-development workshops, résumé and interview preparation, digital and workplace skills, employment and training navigation, professional development, and connections to workforce opportunities and supportive resources.

We also promote broader economic empowerment through financial education, financial capability, entrepreneurship and small-business education, and practical workshops that help individuals and families strengthen their economic well-being. Through community partnerships, coaching, capacity building, and resource navigation, NHA works to reduce barriers to opportunity and help residents move toward sustainable employment, increased financial stability, and long-term economic mobility.

Emergency Preparedness & Community Resilience

New Hope Alive, Inc. helps individuals, families, and communities prepare for emergencies, strengthen resilience, and connect with trusted resources before, during, and after times of crisis. Our work includes community preparedness education, emergency-resource navigation, disaster-readiness outreach, safety awareness, and practical information that helps residents understand how to prepare, respond, and recover.

NHA works in partnership with NYC Emergency Management (NYCEM) and participates in emergency preparedness and service networks at the New York State and national levels, strengthening our ability to share credible preparedness information, connect communities with trusted resources, and support coordinated approaches to community resilience.

Through relationships with residents, community organizations, government agencies, and emergency-preparedness partners, NHA supports preparedness activities, community education, resource coordination, and outreach to populations that may face greater barriers during emergencies. Our goal is to help build communities that are better informed, better connected, and better prepared.

Community Outreach, Engagement & Resource Coordination

New Hope Alive, Inc. brings services, information, and community partners directly into the neighborhoods we serve. Through street-level outreach, community resource events, educational activities, neighborhood engagement, and one-on-one assistance, we connect individuals and families with practical resources that support health, stability, opportunity, and resilience.

Our outreach model brings together healthcare providers, government agencies, nonprofit and community-based organizations, service providers, volunteers, and other trusted partners to make resources more accessible. Residents can receive information, referrals, screenings, benefits and resource navigation, health and wellness education, emergency-preparedness information, and connections to additional services based on their needs.

NHA also coordinates community initiatives and collaborative events that strengthen relationships between residents and the organizations that serve them. Our Community Health & Stability Initiative demonstrates this approach by bringing multiple partners and services together at the neighborhood level and creating accessible opportunities for residents to connect directly with resources.

Through sustained outreach, partnerships, volunteer engagement, and community presence, NHA works to ensure that people are not simply given information—they are connected to people, programs, and pathways that can help them move forward.

IRS VITA Free Tax Preparation & Financial Education

New Hope Alive, Inc. provides free tax preparation services through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, helping eligible individuals and families prepare and file their federal and state income tax returns accurately and at no cost.

As an IRS-approved VITA site, NHA works to make trusted tax assistance more accessible to individuals and families who may face financial, language, technology, or other barriers to professional tax preparation. Services are provided by trained and IRS-certified volunteers in accordance with VITA program requirements and applicable IRS quality and confidentiality standards.

NHA integrates tax assistance with financial education and economic empowerment. Through practical education and resource connections, we help community members strengthen their understanding of budgeting, saving, credit, financial planning, tax credits, and other tools that can support greater household financial stability.

Our approach extends beyond filing a tax return. By connecting free tax preparation, financial education, benefits and resource navigation, and economic-opportunity services, NHA helps individuals and families better understand their financial options, retain more of the resources available to them, and build toward greater long-term financial well-being.

Volunteer & Civic Engagement

New Hope Alive, Inc. mobilizes volunteers and community members to turn service into meaningful community impact. Volunteers support NHA’s community outreach, health and resource initiatives, educational activities, benefits and resource navigation, emergency preparedness efforts, special events, and other community-based programs.

Through volunteer engagement, NHA creates opportunities for individuals to serve their communities, develop practical skills, build leadership experience, and strengthen connections with neighbors and community organizations. Volunteers may assist with outreach and event operations, community education, resource distribution, administrative and program support, and direct engagement with residents.

NHA works with individual volunteers, students, professionals, community groups, corporate and institutional partners, and public-service networks to expand the capacity of community-based initiatives. Our experience includes engaging volunteers through NYC Service and other community and service partnerships, helping connect people who want to serve with meaningful opportunities to contribute.

Volunteerism is also part of NHA’s broader commitment to civic participation and community resilience. By bringing residents, volunteers, organizations, and partners together around shared community needs, we help develop stronger networks of people who are prepared to contribute their time, knowledge, skills, and experience toward building healthier and more resilient communities.

Older Adults & Aging Support

New Hope Alive, Inc. supports older adults and their families by helping them remain connected, informed, independent, and engaged in their communities. Our approach recognizes that healthy aging involves more than healthcare—it also requires access to benefits, stable housing, nutritious food, social connection, financial security, safety, and trusted community resources.

NHA helps older adults navigate and connect with public benefits, healthcare and wellness resources, food and nutrition assistance, housing and supportive services, transportation resources, financial education, tax assistance, emergency-preparedness information, and other community-based supports. Through outreach, education, referrals, and individualized resource navigation, we work to reduce barriers that can make accessing services difficult.

We also recognize the importance of social connection, lifelong learning, digital inclusion, and meaningful community participation. Educational activities, technology and digital-literacy support, workshops, community events, volunteer opportunities, and intergenerational engagement can help older adults remain connected while continuing to share their knowledge, skills, and experience with others.

For older adults whose needs require specialized services, NHA works through community and healthcare partnerships and trusted referral networks to connect individuals and caregivers with appropriate providers and resources. Our goal is not to replace specialized aging or healthcare services, but to help people understand their options and successfully reach the support they need.

Through this integrated approach, NHA works to promote dignity, independence, safety, connection, and quality of life throughout the aging journey.

Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities Support & Advocacy

New Hope Alive, Inc. believes that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have the right to live with dignity, exercise choice, pursue their goals, and participate fully in the communities they call home. Our approach is person-centered and grounded in respect for each individual’s strengths, preferences, abilities, culture, relationships, and aspirations.

NHA supports individuals and families through advocacy, education, resource navigation, information, community connections, and referrals to appropriate services and opportunities. We promote self-determination by helping individuals access information, understand available options, communicate their preferences, and participate meaningfully in decisions about the services, supports, and opportunities that affect their lives.

Our commitment to inclusion extends across the areas that contribute to a meaningful and self-directed life, including education and lifelong learning, gainful and competitive employment, workforce participation, stable and appropriate housing, health and wellness, financial stability, transportation and community access, benefits and resource navigation, social connection, and civic and community participation. Wherever possible, our work emphasizes pathways that expand opportunity, independence, economic participation, and meaningful inclusion rather than limiting people because of disability.

NHA also recognizes the importance of supporting transition-age youth, adults, families, and caregivers as individuals navigate different stages of life. Consistent with each person’s choices and preferences, we help connect people with information, community resources, education and workforce pathways, housing resources, benefits, accessibility supports, and appropriate specialized services. We promote equal opportunity, accessibility, reasonable accommodations, informed choice, and the rights of people with disabilities to participate fully in community life.

We recognize that self-determination means keeping the individual at the center of decisions affecting their life. When desired by the individual and appropriate to their circumstances, NHA also works alongside families, caregivers, community partners, and other trusted supporters while respecting the individual’s voice, preferences, privacy, autonomy, and right to make informed choices.

Accessibility and inclusion are central to our approach. NHA supports opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to learn, work, live, volunteer, build relationships, contribute their talents, and participate alongside people with and without disabilities in community life. We seek to reduce barriers to participation and encourage environments in which people are recognized for their abilities, contributions, interests, and potential.

Through community partnerships and trusted referral networks, NHA connects individuals and families with appropriate specialized resources when needs extend beyond our direct services. Our role is to help people understand their options, navigate systems and resources, advocate for access and opportunity, and make informed connections to organizations and providers equipped to address specialized needs.

Our goal is inclusion with opportunity: people supported not simply to receive services, but to exercise choice, build independence, pursue meaningful employment, secure stable housing, develop relationships, contribute to their communities, and build the lives they choose for themselves.

Housing Stability & Resource Navigation

New Hope Alive, Inc. helps individuals and families navigate housing-related challenges by connecting them with trusted information, resources, benefits, and appropriate housing-support services. We recognize that safe and stable housing is fundamental to health, family stability, economic security, and overall well-being.

NHA provides housing-resource navigation, education, referrals, and individualized support to help community members understand available options and identify appropriate next steps. Depending on individual circumstances, this may include connections to affordable-housing resources, rental and utility assistance, homelessness-prevention resources, public benefits, supportive services, and community or government programs designed to promote housing stability.

Our approach is especially attentive to individuals and families who may face additional barriers to housing stability, including older adults, people with disabilities, low-income households, families experiencing economic hardship, and residents navigating complex public systems. We work to make information more understandable and accessible while helping people connect with organizations and agencies equipped to address specialized housing needs.

NHA does not function as a housing placement agency or guarantee housing. Instead, we serve as a trusted community-based navigator and connector, helping people understand resources, prepare for next steps, make informed decisions, and reach appropriate housing and supportive-service providers.

Through partnerships, benefits navigation, financial education, and coordinated referrals, NHA works to help individuals and families move toward greater housing stability, independence, safety, and long-term community well-being.

Food, Nutrition & Basic Needs Support

New Hope Alive, Inc. helps individuals and families connect with food, nutrition, and essential resources that support health, stability, and everyday well-being. We recognize that access to nutritious food and basic necessities is closely connected to health, financial stability, housing security, educational success, and a family’s ability to thrive.

Through resource navigation, benefits assistance, community outreach, referrals, and partnerships, NHA helps residents identify and access available food and nutrition resources. This may include connections to food pantries and community food distributions, SNAP and other public benefits, nutrition resources, emergency food assistance, and community-based programs addressing food insecurity and related household needs.

Our approach goes beyond providing a referral. NHA helps individuals and families understand available resources, navigate eligibility and access processes, identify appropriate next steps, and connect with trusted community and government partners. When needs extend beyond food assistance, we help connect residents with related supports such as healthcare, housing resources, utility assistance, financial education, benefits navigation, and other services that can contribute to household stability.

NHA also works through community partnerships and coordinated outreach to bring information and resources closer to residents, particularly individuals and families who may experience barriers to accessing traditional service systems. By connecting food and nutrition support with our broader health, benefits, housing, and economic-stability work, we address immediate needs while helping people pursue greater long-term stability.

Our goal is not simply to address hunger for a day, but to help connect people with resources and opportunities that support food security, dignity, health, and stronger households over time.
